The Tapered Fissure Bur #701 (699, 700, 701, 701L, 702) is an all-purpose bur that can be used to section teeth, gain endodontic access and is also useful as a general purpose bur. Tapered means the cutting diameter tapers towards the end of the bur and fissure means the bur can drill holes at its tip, as well as section teeth along its side. The larger the number, the larger the diameter of the bur. In this case, #701 will leave a medium-sized cutting gap. FG stands for friction grip which is used for push button handpieces. The length of this bur is 25 mm which is considered Surgical Length and is helpful for gaining access to hard to reach teeth. The extra length of these burs can increase the chance of bending which can cause damage to the handpiece turbine.
